Apr 12, 2023 Chiradzulu District

Can you imagine being one pastor for 31 churches? It’s hard to believe, but that’s the job of District Pastor Ernest Kefa.

The Adventist message is spreading so quickly through the country of Malawi that it’s hard for pastors like Pastor Kefa to keep up.

When I first became District Pastor for Chiradzulu in 2020, I was assigned 56 churches; that was too many. So, I sat down with other church leaders and wrote the district office asking for them to divide Chiradzulu into two districts. In January of this year, another pastor has come on board and taken 26 churches.

Relying heavily on church elders and gospel workers, he makes his way through his churches on a quarterly schedule, sometimes preaching at three to four churches every Sabbath.

The furthest church from where I stay is 57 km away, via motorbikeÑit’s 1 hour and 45 minutes one-way, said Pastor Kefa.

His ministry has more than 2,706 baptized members, and that’s a lot to juggle for one person, but Pastor Kefa said it wouldn’t be possible without evangelism meetings such as the one we just had.

He described QHM mission trips as an extension of his right hand, It is very difficult for me to conduct a 10-day series in three different locations, but Quiet Hour Ministries made it possible. What they have shared during the mission trip has been so nice because the people could watch the film, hear the sermons, and see the presentation on the screen. We don’t have those kinds of materials here, and it makes a big difference. People came in huge numbers, which was so good to see. 183 souls gave their lives to the Lord within 10 daysÑwhat a miracle! God has been uplifted because of the work Quiet Hour Ministries has done through the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Praise God! During this mission trip to Malawi, we were able to help baptize 230 people, thanks to the work of Pastor Kefa, the church elders, the gospel workers, and our evangelism meetings.

Each new member, no matter how young, received their own Bible at their baptism. In the villages, on average, a person makes 500 Kwacha a day, and a Bible costs about 13,000 Kwacha. It costs a month’s worth of wages to buy one Bible! Can you imagine? But thank God for donors like you who made this precious gift possible!

So, being able to provide each new believer with their very own lifeline was such an immense blessing. With the guidance of Pastor Kefa, the church elders, and the gospel workers, they can continue to cultivate and strengthen their relationship with the Almighty.

The South Malawian Conference currently has 480,000 members, and they are looking to increase their membership to 1 million in the next three years. They can only do so with the continuous support from you and the worldwide church.

Let’s keep the Chirazulu District in our prayers as they do so much with so little, and they continue to do just as Matthew 28:20 says:

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20
