May 11, 2022 Everything Gone in the Flood

Nasir and his family, who live in Pakistan, recently experienced the goodness of God after a life-threatening flood took everything from them.

Nasir’s family lives in French Colony, a slum of about 1,200 homes in Islamabad, Pakistan. On the best days, life here is hard. A slow-moving river of open sewage runs through the community, carrying empty wrappers, broken flip-flops, rags, plastic bottles, human waste and other garbage. Poverty runs rampant. Hopelessness abounds.

The worst days are during monsoon season. The water level rises and gushes into homes, putting lives at risk, washing away belongings and spreading waterborne diseases.

Last December, a big flood came, said Nasir. There was more than six feet of water in our home. It was very difficult for us to get out and get to higher ground.

The flood situation was so bad that all of Nasir’s family’s belongings were washed away, including all their food supplies.

We didn’t have anything to eat for many days, said Nasir. Thankfully, Quiet Hour Ministries international partners reached out to Nasir’s community. God-fearing people came to help us by providing food rations, clothes and other household items, said Nasir. They comforted us and prayed with us. It helped us get back on our feet and restart our lives once again. After meeting these basic needs, through your support, partners also distributed free Bibles and books such as Steps to Christ and Desire of Ages by Mrs. Ellen G. White (all translated into Urdu, Pakistan’s national language)Ñwhich your generosity also helps provide!

The love, care and kindness you offer is transforming hearts! As a result of this spiritual seed planting, 30 people were baptized and expressed their desire to join the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Today, Quiet Hour Ministries’ international partners are conducting follow-ups in Nasir’s community, discipling new believers and offering Bible studies.

We are very thankful to God for taking care of us according to His promises given in the Holy BibleÑthat He will never leave nor forsake His people, said Nasir. May God bless you abundantly and continue using you mightily for His great cause to strengthen the faith of many, he said.

God created us with basic needs: food, water and shelter. He also created us to be in relationship with HimÑwith a longing in our heart that only He can fill. Please pray for mission in Pakistan and around the world.

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you… For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior… Isaiah 43:1-2a, 3a
