Feb 14, 2024 From Despair to an Abundant Life

“Help me, pastor! I have nothing to live for,” Patrick* implored his charismatic church leader. Patrick tried to explain his guilt and emptiness. But, the pastor didn’t have any advice or comfort to offer.

When Patrick moved from a small village to a large city he quickly made friends. But, they were not like the people back home. They wanted nothing to do with God or any kind of church services. Patrick admits that he made bad choices by joining in the unhealthy activities of his new group of friends. He knew he was sacrificing his relationship with God.

When Patrick was deep in despair and ready to end his life, he realized his great need for God, so he searched for a church. Despite the charismatic pastor’s lack of help, Patrick started reading his Bible and praying for God to lead him to the right path for his life.

Then Patrick received a visit from a QHM gospel worker. The gospel worker was going door to door in Patrick’s community offering Bible studies. Patrick was eager to learn and happily signed up for weekly visits to study with the whole family. When they learned about the Biblical teaching of the seventh-day Sabbath, they had a lot of questions. So, the gospel worker also invited Patrick and his family to attend worship on Saturday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Patrick was eager to learn about Adventist teachings. He also started volunteering in church activities. Soon the Adventist pastor noticed Patrick’s changed life and honest faithful service. He invited Patrick to come along with him during home visits where he was giving Bible studies.

Now Patrick is a leader in the church and happily inviting families in his neighborhood to study the Bible. Patrick says, “I am thankful to God for His blessings and His grace for saving me and my family and using us for His glory.” Patrick is grateful to the people who provided the funding for gospel workers to reach out to him. He prays for continued blessings for gospel workers who act as a beacon of light for those who are lost.

Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
