Mar 20, 2019 God chose a man. Then the man shared the perfect plot.
Rereu Kiu was searching for a church home in Kenya. As he visited churches, he would compare their beliefs to what he had been carefully studying in his Bible. One Sabbath, he found an Adventist church that met in a room at a school. Week after week, he discovered they believed what he had learned in his studies. He started attending regularly and began studying with the local lay pastor.
The pastor was encouraging the small group of members to start raising money to build a church. He asked Rereu to think about it. Rereu decided that this was the perfect opportunity to inventory his belongings and begin paying tithe. Like most Maasai, his assets were mostly his herds and land. He calculated that his tithe was equal to three cows, so he sold them and contributed his tithes to the building project.
Then, he offered even more. “I want to give a half an acre of my land for our new church building,” he told the pastor. The plot Rereu offered could not have been any more perfect. It is located just a little way from an SDA-operated orphanage and a primary boarding school. For people who walk everywhere, it is centrally located and easy to access. It is near a well where people come for water. It is a plot perfectly positioned to minister to the needs of this community.
Our mission team had heard about Rereu and was really looking forward to meeting this man who had found his church home and had given so much. Rereu attended the evangelism meetings and was baptized on the last Sabbath of the series. He expressed his gratitude to the QHM team. “I will never forget you, your words changed my life.” Our team was humbled by meeting a man who has been moved so deeply by the Holy Spirit. And they celebrated with him, knowing his commitment to God would change the lives of many others in his community and beyond.
What an honor it was to be part of this man’s growing walk with Jesus.
