Jun 7, 2023 God Opening Doors in Colombia

Sometimes we think of “mission work” as something only evangelists or people in the medical field can do. But instead, God used a young man’s hope for the youth in his village, Piracemo.

QHM gospel worker Marcela shares how God used this “seed” of an idea to grow the church:

My husband Araldo and I became friends with Juan, a young man in Mitú in 2020. He shared how he wanted to do something for the youth in his community in Piracemo.

Juan invited us to his village, and he introduced us to the village captain. We talked about planning a day of community service, activities that would be valuable, and ways we could involve the young people.

For us to visit Piracemo, we would have to hire a boat and travel west on the Vaupes river. There are no roads or bridges to this village. There are very limited resources in these villages, limited power, water, and medical services. So, we could understand why Juan wanted to help his village.

For our first official event, we invited the community to join in activities and games. The village enjoyed the activities and allowed us to continue to visit.

Praise God! In October of 2021, we were able to purchase our own missionary boat. By the end of the year, we were able to send three youth from Piracemo to Vida Sana (Healthy Life) to be trained in God’s Word, and how to do ministry.

By August 2022, the community of Piracemo was excited to welcome the mission team from Quiet Hour Ministries! The village people were so blessed by our gifts of food, as well as clinics, health talks, kids’ programs, and evening meetings. Many were enlightened to the gospel and three angel’s messages, and many wanted to learn more.

In February 2023, the first missionaries who were trained have now returned to Piracemo and established a Sabbath school class. The community has provided a place for the small worship group to meet, but there are increasing needs. As the group is growing, we need more benches, more materials for the children, and of course, more hands to help.

There are four missionaries from Vida Sana (Healthy Life) who are sharing God’s Word in this community, and three of them are natives from the village. All of us continually pray for God to raise up more committed believers to serve and share. There are many families that we’re doing Bible studies with, and we’re excited by how they are growing in their faith.

Praise God! Last Sabbath, more than 50 people came to worship, including 20 children! And, something remarkable happened after lunch that Sabbath. We were walking through the community, listening to the birds singing. But in the middle of my walk, I heard something more in the distance—it was a hymn!

We had donated USB drives a while back, and given them to some families in this community. The USB drives contained hymns, audio books, audio Bible, sermons, etc. We shared these drives in faith, and now we can see how they’re fulfilling their purpose!

We praise God for His provision for Piracemo, and how He is touching hearts. We’re grateful for each organization and every supporter that has helped this gospel seed grow through their donations and prayers. Sometimes the needs seem overwhelming, but we remind ourselves how God has provided for us in the past—and that He will continue to provide.

Please join us in praying for the young missionaries in Piracemo. Pray for each family that attends on Sabbath and for those studying the Bible. Pray for the neighboring villages, and that this place can be a center of influence so that many people come to know the Savior and can give their lives to Him. Pray that all would be reached for Christ in the jungles of Colombia.

Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38
