Nov 9, 2022 Kanha’s Secret Prayer

19-year-old Kanha lives in Veal Vong, a village in Cambodia. Quiet Hour Ministries has been active in her community for some time, providing Bibles and funding gospel workers to visit homes, offer Bible studies and invite people to church. Kanha didn’t grow up going to church, and when we first met her, she didn’t believe Jesus was real.

Every Sabbath, Kanha’s friends would invite her to come to the meeting place to listen to the Word of God. She would go, but mostly for the friendship she shared with the other girls.

When it came time to move into baptismal classes, Kanha agreedÑagain, because she enjoyed being part of the group and spending time with her friends.

But when the class ended, she was hesitant to get baptized. She still didn’t believe in Jesus.

If Jesus is the true God, then He has to do something supernatural for me to be convinced, she said. Then I will believe in Him and accept Him as my personal Savior.

Two days passed by. One afternoon, Kanha didn’t have anything to do, so she took out her Bible. She opened it randomly and started reading,

And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive (Matthew 21:22).

Kanha pondered upon the text. Right then, she made a covenant with God: God, if you can help me with two things, then I will believe in You and be baptized, she said.

The first thing, Lord, is to help me to pass my upcoming exam, she prayed. And also, please provide a phone for me that I can use for my studies.

The following week, Kanha took the exam and passed! She raced home to share the good news with her mother. But before she could get a word out, her mother said, I have a special gift for you, as she handed her a new phone. Even though you didn’t ask for it, I think you really need this for your studies.

Tears came to Kanha’s eyes as she thought of God’s providence. He really heard and answered my requests, she thought.

The following Sabbath, Kanha declared, Lord, I now believe in You, and I want to be baptized. I especially would like to thank you for answering my prayers. Now, I am willing to follow wherever You lead me.
