May 10, 2023 Kids Crowd in for Jesus
I’ve never been on a mission trip with this many children before! said Barbara, one of the children’s program leaders.
Two of the three evening meeting sites for the children were outdoors with temporary walls built to make a safe space. After the first evening, both sites had to rebuild their walls to make room for the hundreds of children that came each night. The other site that didn’t have make-shift walls was in a building with cement benches, and every single inch of the floor was filled with a child! Children were sitting in the windows, sitting in the aisles, and the older youth hovered near the door outside to listen because there was not even standing room inside! Every morning and evening the team prayed for each child and attendee to know Jesus more, and personally feel His love for them.
When Georgia told me that the kits were prepared for 100 children, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I hope we don’t have 100 children; that’s so many!’ I was challenged, but it was such a wonderful experience. Pam, QHM volunteer.
Every morning when the team would debrief on how their site was developing and share any needs or challenges. Each site was reporting from 200-400 children every evening! The numbers were so large that some team members would have to count in 50s!
One of the images that will stick in my mind was the anticipation of the children. When they thought the Jesus Film was finished in the main meeting area, you’d see this rush of kids that would run toward the children’s area before the movie even ended, said Dr. Gary.
I remember one day, shared Dr. Gary, there were a bunch of kids already waiting for us, and when we walked in, they gave a big cheer!
Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. Matthew 19:14
Praise God for the excitement these Malawi children have for learning more about Jesus! Will you continue to pray for the children in Malawi and around the world?
