Aug 16, 2023 Light in Farrell’s Darkness

In a tiny remote village in the Wasuponda district of Indonesia, QHM gospel worker, Pastor Thando, met a 74-year-old man named Farrell. Farrell grew up Muslim, but he converted to Christianity when he married his wife, Bunga. They have 7 children, some who are Muslim, and some who are Christian.

Farrell has been paralyzed for the past 19 years. Various attempts have been made to help him, but nothing has worked. You see, when Farrell was young, his parents had instilled an amulet, called “opo-opo” into his body. Farrell believes this talisman was making him ill. He met with many priests over the years, asking them to pray for him that the evil would be removed from his body. The priests tried time and time again, but it didn’t work.

Pastor Thando was visiting a house across the street one day and met Bunga and some other women who were talking outside. Bunga invited Pastor Thando to visit her husband and offer special prayer. Pastor Thando went in to Farrell’s bedside and read God’s promises from the Bible. He then gave a special prayer, asking for God to cast out the power of darkness from out of Farrell’s body.

A few days later, Pastor Thando received word that the darkness in Farrell was fighting back!

Pastor Thando gathered a group together to have another prayer session for Farrell. He also set up regular visits with Farrell where he always read Scriptures and prayed. With each visit from the pastor, Farrell felt stronger.

Soon afterwards, Farrell declared that the power of darkness within him had disappeared! He praised God for His power over darkness! Now Farrell became very eager to learn all about God and the Bible.

The following month, he asked to be baptized along with his wife, Bunga. But remember, Farrell is paralyzed, so the church elders had to carry Farrell into the baptismal waters.

Once Farrell’s old life was washed clean through baptism, he came up out of the water renewed! And, it was more than a spiritual renewal—Farrell stood up and walked out of the baptismal waters on his own with no assistance! Praise the Lord for this miracle!

Farrell and Bunga are now mighty witnesses to the power of God. Just seeing Farrell walk after 19 years of being paralyzed would be enough. But Farrell and Bunga are excited and enthusiastic about sharing the gospel with all of their friends and neighbors. Praise God!

Will you continue to pray and partner with us to send gospel workers to dark, remote areas of the world? Please pray that God would continue to work through them to shine the true light of Jesus Christ.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

Quiet Hour Ministries is partnering with the Luwu Tana Toraja Mission in Indonesia to support gospel workers, motorcycles, and evangelism meetings. With the motorcycles, the gospel workers are able to reach the extremely remote areas that are too far to reach on foot in swampy, muddy and mountainous terrain
