Sep 25, 2024 Making Faith Accessible

At just 28 years old, Suzzy faces a challenge that many in Northern Ghana share: she is unable to read.

In a region where 67.5% of people struggle with illiteracy due to high levels of poverty and limited educational resources, Suzzy’s inability to read the Bible left her feeling isolated within her local Sunday school community.

She often found herself relying on others to read Scripture to her, missing out on a personal connection with the Word.

Everything changed when Suzzy ran into her friend Abena, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Abena introduced Suzzy to an incredible new resource—a God Pod, which is an audio Bible.

For the next two months, Suzzy and Abena spent countless hours together, listening to and studying the Bible using this new device.

Thanks to generous donors, Quiet Hour Ministries was able to distribute 1,000 God Pods to the North Ghana Mission. Each God Pod is packed with spiritual resources: the Bible in a local language as well as English, an 80-minute Bible summary, “Steps to Christ,” “Patriarchs and Prophets,” “Desire of Ages,” “The Great Controversy,” health talk recordings, and more—all in Suzzy’s local language.

God’s plan is evident in every step of Suzzy’s journey. Though she never learned to read, divine timing and the gifts from donors brought the God Pod into her life through Abena. This tool became a turning point for Suzzy, allowing her to explore her faith independently and ultimately leading her to a profound decision: she chose to be baptized.

On April 6, 2024, Suzzy was baptized at Kabonwule in Northern Ghana. As a special gift to commemorate her baptism, Suzzy received her very own God Pod. Since then, she has embraced her newfound independence, listening to the Bible daily and nurturing her faith on her own.

Suzzy’s heart is now full of gratitude and excitement as she looks forward to sharing this blessing with others in Northern Ghana who, like her, have struggled with reading the Bible. Her journey is a testament to how a single resource can change lives and bring people closer to their faith.

Just like it says in Ephesians 2:10, “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We are all created like Suzzy was for a special purpose in God’s plan.

Some of us are meant to be the Suzzy in the story, but others are meant to be the donors who made Suzzy’s story possible, each and every hand that was involved in this project was a part of God’s plan for Suzzy.
