Apr 24, 2026 Miles of Faith: Mr. Dody’s Journey to Jesus
The atmosphere that morning at Pioneer SDA Church in Rantepao, Tana Toraja, Indonesia, was warm and welcoming.
After a meaningful Sabbath service, the congregation gathered for a simple meal together—time to rest, connect, and enjoy fellowship.
It was there, in the middle of that relaxed setting, that Pastor Paingy noticed a friendly, calm-looking man, who he later got to know as Mr. Dody.
Their conversation came naturally, and from the beginning, it felt more than a coincidence. It felt like a quiet moment God had prepared.
As they talked, Mr. Dody shared a bit of his story. Though he regularly attended the Adventist church, he wasn’t a member. He belonged to the Evangelical Church, yet his connection to the Adventist message went back years. He had studied for six years at the Anjasmoro Adventist School in Surabaya, where he came to understand the Sabbath as a day of rest. That understanding stayed with him and gently shaped his habits—leading him to worship each Sabbath with the Adventist community.
From that first meeting, a simple friendship began.
Pastor Paingy and his colleagues stayed in touch, not out of pressure, but out of care. Even though they lived about 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) apart.
Pastor Paingy and Mr. Dody found ways to remain connected, sometimes it was a visit when schedules allowed, which was made easier with Pastor Paingy’s QHM motorcycle. Other times, it was a phone call, a prayer, or a short conversation.
Over time, their conversations naturally turned to faith. They explored Scripture together—especially themes from the book of Revelation, the hope of Jesus’ return, and the meaning of following Him fully. There was no rush. Just open dialogue, questions, and a growing sense of clarity.
Prayer became a steady part of the journey. Across distance and busy days, they would pause to pray—asking the Holy Spirit to guide, to give understanding, and to lead each step in the right time.
As the months passed, something deeper began to take root in Mr. Dody’s heart. What he had once understood intellectually began to feel personal. He continued attending church, joined evangelistic meetings when he could, and reflected thoughtfully on what he was learning.
Then, in God’s timing, came a moment of decision.
During a visit to his home, surrounded by a few pastors and friends, there was space for an honest and heartfelt conversation. Just a moment to reflect on the journey he had been on and the faith that had been growing within him.

On October 18th, Mr. Dody chose to take that next step. He was baptized on the Sabbath by Pastor Legoh, publicly accepting Jesus as his personal Savior. Despite personal challenges, including hesitation within his family, he moved forward with a quiet confidence in his decision.
Mr. Dody’s journey shows how faith often grows quietly—through relationships, time, and trust. But behind stories like this is also a practical need: the ability to reach people where they are. In regions like this, where distance can easily become a barrier, motorcycles play a vital role. They make it possible for pastors and Bible workers to stay connected, to visit regularly, and to nurture growing faith. Each mile traveled creates space for moments like these—where hearts are gently led closer to Jesus.
And sometimes, that’s how faith grows—quietly, patiently, and right on time.
