Oct 9, 2024 Shining for Jesus

“Your faith in Jesus can illuminate even the darkest situations,” said Grace*, a QHM Gospel worker, as she met with Amina*, a young woman and new believer in a closed country.

“Sometimes I feel like a hypocrite,” said Amina, sharing her inner conflict during one of their discreet meetings. “I cover my head just a few blocks from my home, so I don’t get in trouble with my family. I dream of a day when my faith doesn’t feel like a secret.”

“Remember His instruction,” said Grace. “‘Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven’” (Matthew 5:16). “Your love, in actions and words, are a loud testament for your faith,” continued Grace. “Remember, He is with you in every quiet step, every silent prayer.”

Grace and Amina had been studying the Bible for months in secrecy, sometimes in a quiet cafeteria, other times in Grace’s house, or within the locked room of Amina’s home. Amina carefully hides her Bible among her school books, a secret treasure unnoticed by her family.

Amina was baptized in secrecy in November 2023, but she dared not reveal her new faith to her family for fear of disownment or imprisonment.

Each day, just a few blocks from her home, Amina donned a headscarf, blending into the cultural tapestry of her surroundings. She understands the challenges of her culture and country, and yet she is still determined to live for Jesus.

Despite these circumstances, Amina’s commitment to the Lord has remained unwavering. She’s taken on leadership roles within the local Christian youth programs. Her passion for Jesus and joy in Him is evident, even amidst the challenging context.

The QHM ministry team has supported Amina closely. She continues to grow in her faith, quietly influencing her friends, praying, and looking for opportunities to have spiritual conversations. She wants to share the hope of Jesus with others, the way that Grace first shared with her.

Please pray for Amina so that her faith in Christ will stay strong. Pray for all our Gospel workers like Grace, who are sharing Jesus in closed countries.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it,” John 1:5.
