Sep 3, 2025 The Answer to ‘Why God?’

All of us, at one point in our lives, have experienced something so painful or confusing that we’ve cried out, “Why, God?”

“Why me? Why now? Why this?”

We’ve all gotten sick, lost a loved one, been heartbroken, laid off, or forced to move away, the kind of situations that bring us to our knees asking that infamous question: Why?

And somewhere in that pain, a verse might come to mind:

“I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

Sometimes, though, we don’t get to know the “why.”

But for Marleny, she found out why.
It was to bring her back to Him.

Marleny’s life has been filled with moments of darkness and uncertainty.

Struggling with multiple health issues and very limited financial resources, she was forced to make an incredibly difficult decision: to temporarily leave her husband, children, and hometown to move to Mitú, Colombia, in search of a better future for her family.

When she arrived in Mitú, her struggles didn’t end. She could only afford housing on the outskirts of the city, an area that flooded constantly during the winter.

While still battling health problems and separated from her family, she began to doubt whether moving to Mitú had been the right decision. It felt like she had run out of options.

But then, she remembered her cousin, someone who had gone through a similar experience. Her cousin had turned to Jesus in her time of need and was now baptized and full of hope.

Around that same time, a series of Bible lectures were being held at her cousin’s church. Marleny decided to go.

After the event, her cousin introduced her to the pastor, who visited Marleny at her home a few days later.

From then on, every two weeks, Marleny and some of her extended family studied the Bible together. Soon after Marleny began witness changed in her health that she and her family attributed to what God was doing in her life.

Marleny’s interest grew, and she became even more curious and decided to attend church and grow in friendship with the other members of the congregation.

She began to see God’s hand everywhere—in her healing, her relationships, and even in the small blessings she once overlooked.

Through it all, she became convinced that only God could truly help her.

As the Bible studies came to a close, Marleny and her youngest son made the decision to give their lives to Jesus—out of gratitude for what He had done in their lives.

And by God’s grace, today, her entire family is reunited in the city. They are all studying the Bible together and growing in their knowledge of the Savior of the world.

Marleny’s journey reminds us that even in our darkest moments, God is still working, shaping, guiding, and calling us back to Him.

While we may not always understand the “why” behind our struggles, Marleny’s story is a powerful testimony that sometimes, the pain has a purpose.

For her, it was the beginning of a deeper relationship with Jesus—a journey from despair to hope, from questions to faith. Her life is now a living example that God’s plans truly are for peace and a future filled with hope.
