Jan 5, 2022 Top 5 New Year’s Mission Checklist
Are you eager to get back out in the world to share your faith? So are we! Quiet Hour Ministries makes your mission travel easy since we handle all of the travel, lodging, and meal logistics. Here are five things you can do early in the new year to be ready to go.
1. Packing List
When you sign up for a mission trip, Quiet Hour Ministries will give you a packing list to help you prepare. However, there are some things you can get now so you won’t have a last-minute rush to pack.
Start with a supply of face masks and disinfectant wipes, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and a thermometer. Think about bringing a small notebook to keep track of the names of people you meet and your experiences on the trip.
Many team members tell us they wish they had brought clothing to give away. Others plan in advance to find small items to give to kids who come to the children’s meetings. Some bring tools or paint brushes from home to help with construction projects.
Make your own list now of items that are important to you and set up a space to start your travel collection.
2. Travel documents
Do you have a passport? If not, now is the time to apply. The State Department recommends applying 4-6 months before planned travel. You can get application information online or at many post office locations.
If you already have a passport, check the expiration date. If you are within one year of expiration, apply for renewal now. Most international locations require that you have at least six months of time left on your passport.
You may also need a visa for entry into another country. Quiet Hour Ministries will work with you to make sure you know how to get a visa depending on the specific location.
Bring your health insurance card with you when you travel internationally. Quiet Hour Ministries provides travel insurance for you. However, to coordinate medical care or evacuation, you will need to show proof of your personal medical insurance.
3. Health Prep
Depending on where you travel, there may be health requirements and recommendations. Check the U.S. Department of State website to find specifics on any country. Ask your doctor or travel pharmacy about any health documentation needed for travel to the countries you are visiting.
See your doctor for a routine physical exam early in the year to make sure you are ready for travel. Let your doctor know you plan to travel internationally and ask for recommendations relating to your health needs.
4. Bring a Buddy
You will undoubtedly make new friends on your mission. You will create memories with your fellow team members that last a lifetime. And, you will find brothers and sisters in Christ at the international church where you serve.
Give a friend or family member the opportunity to share this experience with you. They will also gain the blessing of new friends. And you will have someone back home that can understand exactly what you experienced and how your life was changed by your time in God’s service.
5. Bible Study and Prayer
The number one best way to prepare for an evangelism mission is to ensure you are talking with God in advance. Regardless of where you are on your personal spiritual journey, start praying specifically to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Let God know you are willing for Him to use you in mighty ways. Set aside specific time for reading scripture and listening for God’s voice.
Many team members find it helpful to pull together a small group and ask them for personal prayer in preparation of your mission. Talk with your family, friends, and Sabbath School class.
You may find that unexpected trials arise that threaten to stop your mission plans. Don’t get discouraged! Our God is stronger than anything and with Him on your side, you cannot fail. There is nothing like the special blessings you will receive when sharing your faith on an evangelism mission trip.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14
