Jan 31, 2018 What happens when you’re bold for Christ?
One of the boldest, life-changing things I ever did was going on my first mission trip to Cusco, Peru.
I had already been working at Quiet Hour Ministries for seven years, but this was my first overseas mission. I had never flown so far from the U.S. before and I had some anxiety about the unknowns that would be waiting for me. I had no public speaking experience but I was diving head-first into preaching an evangelistic series. So many thoughts buzzed in my head like what would I eat? Where would I be preaching? But most of allÑ would God truly be able to use me to reach the people?
Despite my fears, I stepped out boldly, trusting God to give me courage.
And sure enough, I met a local man who gave me some public speaking tips. He encouraged me, an introverted business major from College Place, Washington, to be more bold and passionate when I spoke. He told me to add empathy, heart and big hand gestures into my preaching.
My confidence boosted, I walked onto the platform each night. I spoke of God’s love, describing a benevolent Father who is fighting for each of us to be in His kingdom. One night, as I preached, I looked into the audience and saw a woman with tears running down her cheeks.
After the meeting, I learned that she, Isabella, had always been taught of a stern and punishing God. But that night, the Holy Spirit touched her heart and showed her a new picture of a kind and loving God.
On that trip, I had the privilege of seeing Isabella accept Jesus.
I was amazed how God used this mild-mannered finance guy to win souls. I realized that when God asks us to be bold and take giant steps, no matter how intimidating, He always provides the help and support we need.
When I returned from Peru, I had a new passion for ministry. And today, I keep Isabella’s picture in my office to remind me of her changed life.
If you feel a tug in your heart to share Jesus, I encourage you to be bold! I promise you will see God work through you!
