Jul 2, 2025 Where God Wanted Us: One Family’s Unforgettable Mission Trip

“At first, it was a bit of a breath-holding moment. But then I thought—this is spiritual warfare,” explained our children’s leader, Dee. “Satan is trying to shut this mission trip down because he hates what’s happening here. And yet, in that moment, I felt more faith than fear. I knew that this place had been prayed over and that God was in control. Satan had no power here.”

Dee, her husband Bob, and their 14-year-old daughter Delaney joined us on our recent mission trip to Santo Domingo, Dominica Republic.

“We’ve always known we wanted to do a mission trip as a family—specifically while our daughter was still young,” said Dee. “We started looking around for opportunities, and because I grew up in the church, I was already familiar with Quiet Hour Ministries. But I didn’t realize that mission trips were now such a big part of their ministry again. So, when we found the website and saw this trip listed, we were thrilled!”

“We had been praying about the right trip for our family,” explained Bob “And we just kept coming back to the Santo Domingo trip. You know when something just keeps calling you back and you feel like, “Yeah, this is the one”? That’s how it was for us. I came into this mission trip with high hopes, but the experience has far exceeded them—especially in terms of what I hoped it would mean for our family.”

I grew up doing mission work,” said Dee. “So, I had a general idea of what to expect. But honestly, this experience has been better than I ever imagined. I haven’t had a single moment where I didn’t feel like I was exactly where God wanted me to be. Every step has felt divinely guided, and it’s just came together in such a beautiful way.

“Our daughter has really loved it, she’s a pretty reserved kid, but every night after children’s ministry, she comes back saying, “That was so fun!” As a parent, that’s what you hope for—that your child genuinely enjoys doing ministry

Bob went further to say, “She’s already said she’s sad that it’s ending. That says a lot. To see her genuinely engaged and loving it? That’s been such a blessing for us as parents.”

For Dee and Bob, the most memorable moment happened right at the beginning. “The very first day here,” said Dee. “We visited all the ministry sites. At each one, the entire team—and all the local in-country team members—gathered around and prayed over the group assigned to that site. It felt deeply spiritual, like we were sanctifying that space for God’s work.

“Then that evening, we drove into our site at Cuidad Juan Bosch for our first night of ministry. It was twilight, and we had never seen the area after dark. When we arrived, we realized the entire neighborhood had no electricity.

“At first, it was a bit of a breath-holding moment. But then I thought—this is spiritual warfare.

“Satan is trying to shut this down because he hates what’s happening here. And yet, in that moment, I felt more faith than fear. I knew that this place had been prayed over and that God was in control. Satan had no power here.

“So, we adapted. Delaney put on a fake beard from my kit, we used a flashlight from a phone, and she acted out the story for the kids in the dark. It was one of the most powerful nights I’ve ever experienced. Watching God work despite the obstacles—knowing He was going to make it beautiful regardless—was just incredible.”

Bob added, “That night was unforgettable. For me, two things stand out. First, being in a situation where you’re stretched—where you have to pray more—and then seeing God show up.

“That’s something I hope I carry with me for life.

“Second, I’ve seen the Holy Spirit at work in the faces of my family members. Watching them do amazing things, and knowing it’s God working through them—that’s deeply moving. You also see it in the connections forming between the local church members and the visitors. You see peace and joy radiating from them, and you just know it’s the Holy Spirit.”
