May 5, 2021 Witchcraft in Zambia
Here is an amazing story our partners in Zambia shared. Imagine you’re a pastor, responsible for shepherding a district that’s so spread out you ride 1,550 miles on your motorcycle in just three months!
This is reality for Pastor Chindele Kafuti in a Zambia district called Chavuma. With the help of the motorcycle QHM provided, his dedication to serving God has brought 72 people to Christ and baptism in that same three months. But that’s not the most incredible part of his story!
His church district is split by the mighty Zambezi river. This means that he has to take his motorcycle across the river each time he wants to visit members on the other bank. There, the village headman was a practitioner of witchcraft. As you can imagine, this headman was not happy to see an Adventist pastor bringing teachings about ChristÑhe tried to tell Pastor Chindele to leave.
Each time Pastor Chindele visited that bank of the river, he was told to leave. Finally one day, the headman challenged him to a spiritual duel where chants and charms would be tested against the power of the Christian God.
Pastor Chindele wasn’t fazed by the idea of a spiritual duel because he knew his God was more powerful than any witchcraft. So, he allowed the headman to attempt to charm him. To the headman’s surprise, his charms had no effect on Pastor Chindele. There was nothing he could do then, but ask to know more about the power of this Christian God. Can you believe that Pastor Chindele has been studying the Bible with the very headman who tried to use witchcraft on himÑand who now intends to join the Seventh-day Adventist Church?
What an incredible story of how the power of Christ is moving hearts, even in areas where witchcraft is still practiced. Will you continue to pray and support our partners all around the world like Pastor Chindele who are continuing to change lives?
